The risk I took was calculated... but man am I bad at math.
Jonathan Sims isn't... entirely sure why he exactly was picked to be Head Archivist of the Magnus Institute, but surely there must have been some good reason. He can hardly do worst than the last one, after all - have you seen the absolute disaster the archive is in? No sense of order, half of the statements aren't even filed... ugh. Gertrude Robinson probably never even came within ten feet of a computer.
The Magnus Institute is going to be dragged, by its ears if necessary, into the twenty-first century. And Jonathan Sims is the man to do it.
Provided he doesn't get killed first.
... How did Gertrude disappear, again?
WARNING, THIS PUP COMES WITH MENTAL POWERS (and he's very sorry he didn't ask for this). SEE THE SPOILER SECTION FOR MORE.
Jonathan Sims is currently coming in from the very first season (poor boy) - a smaller man who is just starting to go grey, which is absolutely unfair given that he's not nearly old enough to be noticeably going grey yet. He tends to feign the Very Stern mannerisms of someone completely in over their head, because... well. He is. He was a researcher not so long ago, and he definitely doesn't have any sort of degrees in anything related to being an Archivist, but... well. Here we are. Turns out saying 'no' to his boss is... shockingly difficult. He tends to be a bit exhausted always these days, what with all the work that needs doing.
He's good with a CO2 extinguisher. This turns out to be important.
He is bad with actually communicating concerns to his assistants. This turns out to be even more important.
SPOILERS, but info about his powers:
Jonathan Sims, in his role as Archivist, is slowly becoming one of the avatars for the Beholding. You know that fear of being known, of spilling out all of your secrets for everyone to see? Yeeeah. As he progresses, it will get harder and harder for anyone to resist answering when he asks a direct question - the higher your pup's mental abilities/psychic power levels/etc, the more likely that a) they'll be able to tell he's doing it and b) be able to stop. ... He might not know he's doing it, it takes him an awful long time to figure out that people aren't just being nice when he asks questions. Right now, a 'normal' person might be able to shrug him off if they're really really determined on keeping quiet. For reference, being compelled to speak has been described as 'tingly, but kind of nice' by someone strong enough to both know it was happening, and to avoid being compelled. Fair warning, if whatever they're speaking about is horrible, nightmares are coming. He's... really sorry about that.
Tape recorders also tend to turn themselves on and record when important conversations come up... even if he's not around. They also tend to end up in his bag/on his person/under that desk he's sitting next to/etc - he's really not doing this on purpose, and is just as confused as you are.
CURRENT ENTRY DATE: Just after S1E11 (The Dreamer) - He knows there is definitely something... weird, about reading the statements, but he does it anyway because it's his job and he's going to get this archive actually organized SO HELP HIM. Anyone asked for a statement can shrug him off if they don't want to, but any statements will be immensely more coherent than a normal 'let me tell you a story' - no rambly off-shoots about that One Cool Dog you saw on the same day, no vague descriptions, no one-word answers.
Jonathan Sims is from 'The Magnus Archives', and is the property of Rusty Quill. They appear here solely for the purpose of role-playing in
